First Hotel is well-known as one of the leading hotels using energy saving effectively in Ho Chi Minh City. That’s the reason First Hotel was awarded “Asean Green Hotel” in recent years.
In an attempt to bring a new look to the hotel, save the cost and increase the business effectively, since 1998, First Hotel have embarked on the construction of a green hotel model through activities to improve performance, save power and water to reduce costs and protect the environment. The creation of green and clean environment not only creates beautiful landscape but also ensures the health for visitors and the community – said Mr. Huynh Van Phat – GM of First Hotel.
Starting from the "small" action but “big” effectiveness not only for hotel but mostly for clients, hotels participate in developing ISO 14000 - Environmental Certification - starting from March 2002 with Asia Invest project - scheduled to last within 18 months, sponsoring by EU for 15 hotels and resorts that belong to Saigontourist Holding Company. Asia Invest is a program to “Green” the hotel industry in Vietnam and set up the quality management of ISO 14000 for Saigontourist – a program that is considered important in attracting customers, creating business efficiency, towards the sustainable tourism environment.
After a long period of implementation, the hotel has officially received ISO 14000 certification in 2005 and after that, the ISO 14001.
Since that period, the hotel is unceasingly promoting exploration and innovation to bring solutions to optimize the practice of thrift. Specifically, from small things such as inviting customers to participate in saving water by reusing towels and bed sheets which are still clean, replace the bulbs that consume high energy with LED lights or compact ones, set the air-condition to 24oC → 26oC, electricity will automatically cut down when the key is removed from the socket, training staff to get good behaviour in saving electricity & water, classifying recycled waste, ...
By the end of 2010, the hotel summarized to achieve that the cost of electricity and water consumption decreased significantly compared with number of visitors, room occupancy and total revenue of the hotel prior to the application of the program.
